How Your Contribution Helps

How donors can ensure that the funds they are giving are used for the intended purpose

In Australia, Les Pecheurs Internationale is required to channel all funds for overseas projects which it is undertaking in other countries, through an NGO called Global Development Group (GDG), .
In March 2004, the Australian Federal Treasurer declared GDG an “approved organization” under the Overseas Aid Gift Deduction Scheme (OGDS) which means that donations received in Australia by Les Pecheurs and which are channelled through GDG are 100% tax deductable donations for the donor. GDG, in turn deducts 7.5% from the gross amount of each donation prior to remitting the funds to the relevant country. GDG uses the 7.5% to oversee all of the Projects being undertaken by Les Pecheurs.
Periodically, a GDG representative undertakes a visit to Madagascar and to carry out a detailed audit of all aspects of the LPM organisation and operations. This obviously includes close checking of the utilisation of funds to ensure that they have been used for the purpose which they were committed to be used.
GDG is accountable to the Australian Council for the International Development (ACFID), the Federal Department of Foreign Affair and Trade (DFAT) and the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission (ACNC).

“After the training from LPM, I got my funding and then I restarted my charcoal business. Before, I had to beg for money from some members of my family or my friends, but now, I am independent. Even if I am the only one who earns money at home, we have enough to buy food and to send our children to school.”

“Since the time my husband died, I am the only person in charge of my 3 children. As all of them are still studying, I have to do all I can to give them food and to pay their studies. If before I could only sell fruits or only vegetables, now I can sell both at the same time. Now I am very proud of myself as a woman and as the main breadwinner.”

“If at the beginning of the loan, in June 2017, I could build and use only one cart, I was able to build and use two other carts. This had a huge positive impact on our income. My business has generated three additional jobs for the needy (cart drivers), plus I help my community, especially sellers and traders by providing a transport service at lower price.”

      Fanja Program Beneficiary

“The loan helped me purchasing new equipments. Consequently, I am now able to double my production, to get more orders and to increase my revenue. My husband is also very happy because I can help him paying our bills at the end of the month. This is the first time we have had the great opportunity to save, and it is very gratifying. Thank you LPM.”
