At a meeting the founders of Les Pecheurs had with the then Prime Minister of Madagascar, it was agreed that Les Pecheurs would develop the Village of Andriampamaky to the stage where it would be used as a « Model Village » for eventual roll out across the entire country.
With the support and encouragement of Robert Costa and the Anthony Costa Foundation, work started on making this « Model Village » project a reality.
Over the ensuing Years, the Costa Medical Centre has been built and operated as the first CARMMA (Centre for Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa) Centre in Madagascar. This Centre has been providing medical services in the region where none previously existed.
This Centre includes Dental Care, Pre and Post Natal Care, birthing facilities and general medical care and services.
It has made an enormous difference to the lives of the people in Andriampamaky and surrounding areas.
For the duration of this Project, citizens have been provided with training with health care and career guidance.
Clean Water Initiative
Some ten years ago, it was agreed that the heavily polluted water system in the village had to be replaced.
This was done by drilling for subteranean water which was found in abundance and 100% pure.
Anthony Costa Sports Centre
Following this, the Costa Family became involved again by assisting with the financing of a Sports Centre which was ultimately named the Anthony Costa Sports Centre.
It is situated on a hill which was levelled by the local community and now has a full size soccer field, six athletic track around the perimeter of the soccer field and a brand new Pavilion incorporating change and shower facilities and an equipement storage area.
It has became a major attraction and a centre of life in the village and surrounding areas.
It is maintained by a group of volunteers from Andriampamaky, most of them young people.
